From blank to yours.

  1. Get comfortable.

Protect your table and clothing. Read the instructions in your kit and on the paint labels before you begin.

  2. Pick your palette.

Choose two or three colours to start. Decide on a main colour, then use the others for details. You can always add more later.

  3. Paint the larger areas.

Start with a small amount of paint on your brush and spread it in a thin layer. Let a layer dry before adding another, following the paint-label guidance.

  4. Add the little details.

Rinse your brush between colours and blot away excess water. When the base is dry, add stripes, dots or a contrasting detail. Keep it simple or keep experimenting.

  5. Let it dry. Find its spot.

Follow the paint instructions for drying before handling or displaying your figure on its stand. Clean your brushes after painting and close the paint pots.

Three places to start.

Use the colours in your kit. These swatches are ideas, not a list of the paints supplied.

One colour, one detail.

Choose a main colour for most of your figure, then pick out one small feature in a contrasting shade.

Light meets dark.

Use a lighter shade for the larger areas and a darker one for details. The contrast does the work.

A little colour blocking.

Give different areas two main colours. Add a third for a few dots or stripes once the base is dry.
